The Power of Nostalgia

Any time gone by was better? We’re not sure. That’s why we decided to do “time travel” and revisit iconic looks from the 90s & 80s. Which one do you prefer?

In an episode of the tv show “Mad Men” Don Draper explained that the word Nostalgia in Greek means “the pain from an old wound”. In this scene he made a fantastic monologue saying: “Nostalgia is a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. Nostalgia for the last time that we didn’t live, nostalgia for our childhood, nostalgia for all those moments that we will never live again”.

Nowadays we are having a big 80s revival in the entertainment world. Shows like Pose (Fox), Stranger Things (Netflix) or the sequel of the blockbuster IT. Many theories illustrate why we come back to revisit things from the past. Some essayists believe that it is a 30-year cycle; others think that it's a phenomenon that happens when a young generation grows up and they have a feeling of longing towards their childhood/teenage days.

In terms of fashion, the 80s were all about bold choices. Style icons like Joan Collins and Madonna or Hip Hop Artists like MC Hammer and Kid ’N Play influenced the fashion of the decade. Our favorite trends from the 80s? Oversized tracksuits, hair bows, bold colors, and maxi accessories!

We consider the 90s as the last decade without the Internet, the indispensable tool who changed absolutely everything and especially the way we consume entertainment. Back in the days, it was more laborious to get the latest album from your favorite artist or watch over and over your favorite movie. Those difficulties made your possessions more precious which result in a great presence of wistfulness today.

The fashion trends in the 90s were about the ultra-comfortable look, really close to what we call now “athleisure”. Pop icons like the Spice Girls, Nas, Gwen Stefani, and Kurt Cobain determined how thousands of teenagers dressed up.
